Have connected to PC via RS232 serial from Garmin - what is the activation at the PC end - software needed? Is serial .vxd driver enough? How do I track GPS on a chart shown on the PC? How does chart show itself on PC screen? Have a chart program called Sea clear2 - is this useful?

Sea Clear should do the trick and the Garmin 12 is a good unit to use to track your position in real time (I use this unit with a program called OxiExplorer).

Theres' a forum that specialises in this type of stuff here. Many users there seem to use Sea Clear and can probably help with any specific questions you may have.

I used seaclear all last season, it's an excellent package. You do have to scan the charts in though. A bit time consuming but worth it. With the Garmin plugged in to your PC serial port, seaclear should recognise the gps automatically. (assuming you have set up the comms on the garmin)
