Connecting Raymarine ST1000 to ST60+ via seatalk

I'm sorry if this has been covered before but I can't find it amongst all the seatalk and raymarine results.

I have an ST1000 autohelm and a set of ST60+ instruments. currently they are 2 seperate circuits independently switched and fused and not linked up.

I would like to link them via seatalk, but if I follow the instructions in the manuals the power supply for the 2 circuits will be linked so both switches will then turn on both devices and the instrument switch would end up powering the autohelm through the instruments and a 5 amp fuse that will blow.

Is it possible to link the 2 devices by seatalk without combining their power supply so they can remain independently switched? If so is it as simple as only linking the yellow data wire and not the red or black wires? Or perhaps just the yellow and black but not the red?

Link the black and yellow (0V and data) and leave the red disconnected between the two units. This way your power switches will only operate the intended unit but the data will be able to pass when both units are activated.

My ST2000+ sinks the Seatalk data line when it is not powered. What this means is that if the instruments are on but the autopilot is off but still connected then no data can pass along any of the Seatalk line. This may not be a problem in your model or may be fixed, but if you see this effect, you'll know why.

The solution is to fit a double gang switch for the autopilot. When the power is disconnected, disconnect the yellow data line on the same switch.

That's what I was afraid of but good idea with the double gang switch.

I suppose if I can't find a double gang switch to match the others I could fit a small relay on the data line.
