connecting computer to Leica/Philips Mk 9 GPS

I am having difficulties connecting my GPS (Philips/Leica MK9 Dual Control) to my computer. It has been connected before and it worked with Seaclear, but now it simply won't work. Have tried all kind of connections, now still using a DB9 pin serial connector, but I think I might need to change to USB, as the connector is linked to the computer via a hub. When I check in SeaClear it says 'unable to open comm port', whichever port I select.

When I try to run the IDC by Imray, the field you must click to select comm port is not activated. Clicking Help is, of course, no help at all.

Any wizards amongst you?

I would guess that the GPS is quite old and predates USB and will only have RS232 serial connection. USB and RS232 are not the same! You will need to connect direct or find some RS232 to USB converter? I presume you are talking about a USB hub?

It could also be that the com port has been pinched by something else first. You can check to see whether you can hook up to the com port and if so, what messages are coming through from the gps, by trying hyperterminal (Start/Programs/Accessories/Communications..) Failing that, I would suggest groups.yahoo.com/group/gps-navigator go there and put your question again.
