Confused By Garmin Updates - Help Please!

I know this is an old chestnut having searched the forum however.....

Bought a 2nd hand Garmin 5008 installed and working lovely. Previous owner de-registered his product allowing me to register - again no problems.

The plotter has a blue chart g2 vision chart installed on an SD card - works fine.

Now my confusion is how to keep the charts up to date. Do I really need to spend £300 every year to get access to the updates and stay current?

The answer to your question is yes you will need to buy new charts or do your own updates as I do from NtM and insert these as Waypoints although the icons are rather large.

My Garmin chart plotters look like the Solent on a Bank Holiday weekend with all the Sunsail AIS transmitters running!

Bloody daft. I was hoping they'd have fixed this by now. This is one of the reasons I still use paper as primary. Just done me start-of-season correcting session with the purple pen
