I am curious to know why some postings from Brit forumites use the question mark, ?, in place of money signs and apostrophes. All computors over here in Canada have $ and ' on their keyboards.

simply because we have the sterling pond sign (on shift-3) as well as the dollar sign (shift-4). when the pound displays on a computer not equipped for it a different character is displayed. likewise apostrophes and other characters are represented differently on UK machines.

on our screens/keyboards these show up as:

£ pound
$ dollar
' apostrophe
@ at

for full participation in this forum you can always set your PC up for UK English display!!

Many thanks for your reponse, Snowleopard. I am one of the "older generation" and somewhat computor challenged. I wouldn't have a clue on how to set up my Canadian computor to show a UK English display. However, it doesn't really matter as I enjoy reading the postings no matter how they appear on my screen.

Best wishes to you
