Computer Gurus, NMEA to Ipad/Laptop Questions

Yeah can be done with a pi zero, except that for the beginner going with open plotter might be a little easier and that will require a pi 3b or a pi 4 - the later is probably better if your thinking you might use it for charting.

you can then use it to push data to your favourite app or use the VNC viewer app to see the pi directly
Pi3 is fine for opencpn with graphics acceleration turned on imho, used it for real for many many miles, Pi4 is faster in every way and a joy to use but with the power penalty. That's why I now have a zero on 24/7 for monitoring/signalk/music&radio & a 4 for nav or radio stuff. Pi3 struggled with gqrx/wfax retrieval but a 4 can cope fine. Works well controlling a ham radio through fldigi and seems fine for winlink though yet to find a decent station to connect to. Shouldn't be too hard to stick an image online so setup is done, just burn to a card turn on.

As Baldrick said, "I would do Sir but I don't know what you're saying".

I'm not a computer geek, that is Sanskrit to me.
