Spybot hanging, If you go to the "check for update page on Spybot"

below where it says "search for updates" it will say where you are getting the update from, normally " Europe" if you change this by clicking on it to "Austrailia" it will download no problem!...

Clear as mud ? Yeh I thought so too, best I can do though !...

hope it helps.

Excuse the smelling misteak it is Spybot-S&D not Skybot that I was running.
I altered the update download site from Europe to Australia as recommended and it worked fine. They must all be asleep over there!
Any further info on my other request would be appreciated "Any website I can visit to better understand the problems that Adaware and Skybot are trying to prevent would also be useful."

I have to tawl a lot of sites with the work .... but many are via my home PC which is on DSL all time ...... it was hacked some time ago and had to be sorted.

When I say bots - actually I should have said items that Pest Patrol/ Spybot determine are suspect .......

I run Mcafee f/wall having had Zone alrm pro .... ZA is better but I got fed up with it and went back to Mcafee - as ZA was stopping access to a few sites that I use often ... I ssorted with filters etc., but found it overloaded. Well rcc'd though - it worked.

OK .... since posting its gone right down

Cookie Soltron ...... I like that !!!! Must remember that.

Yep - since putting Pest Patrol back on and tweaking it up each day - I am now staying reasonably clean.

Still have to sort my Home Desktop ...... PP and Spybot zapped a few of my files there ......... and my work machine that I talk to you lot on ..... is a noebook that travels back and forth - therefore gets connected to home network in evenings .......

Oh well Computers were supposed to increase our leisure time etc. Never heard of Bill Gates when they said that !

This happens a lot with Spybot .......

Highlight all files in the update list and try again. You may have to try a few times .... anothert thing is regardless of connection have IE up and loaded so that there is an active Intenet connection. Sometimes it works .....
It is not necessary officially as updtaes should all download .... but mine hangs just the same, whereas when first installed all was fine.

The Pest Patrol Site or even just click on the file for more info .....

If you search ADWARE .... you'll get a load of pages to choose.

G'day all,

If you are looking for download locations and some more information on computer security and set, including e-mails, then have a look at the link below; you will need a bit of time to cover it all, but you and your system will be all the better for it.

My first post in any of the ybw forums, so hello all! I've been lurking for a while but this is the first thread where I may have something useful to contribute.

Great places to obtain PC software (some free, most shareware) are: www.tucows.com and www.download.com.

Consider always deleting cookies after using the Internet (the Netscape browser lets you do this automatically). 99% of what Spybot and Adware find are just cookies.

If you're connected full-time via ADSL you MUST run some sort of firewall (Zone Alarm and McAffe have been mentioned, I run Norton Systemworks).

ALWAYS keep a backup of important data (like you favorites folder, as has been suggested). Many PCs come with a CD rewriter so backing stuff up to a rewritable CD is an easy way of protecting valuable data.

Hope this helps some.
