You will need to obtain and old injector (could try ebay) and make up your own adaptor to take a diesel compression gauge unless you are lucky and can find someone who has one made up.
A rough idea of compression can be found by trying to turn the engine over by hand having first removed the alternator and water pump belt. If you use the decompressors to isolate the cylinders in turn and then turn it over by hand on the crankshaft pulley you may be able to isolate the cylinder with low compression-basically it should be pretty hard to turn over the engine by hand with just one cylinder engaged if compression in that cylinder is decent.
A Compression Tester should have a set of suitable adaptors so that you remove all the injectors and test each cylinder in turn by spinning on the starter.Typical compression should be around 20bar.You may be able to hire one or if you do the prep. it should take the mechanic about 15mins to complete the test.
