Good evening:

I have been wondering for some time if I had made a good decision when taking out comprehensive insurance on my yacht with Yachting24 - http://www.yachting24.co.uk/en

For many years I had been insured by Pantaenais and was perfectly happy with their coverage however I never had a chance to test their service insofar as claims went as I never had to make a claim from them.

The comprehensive insurance from Yachting24 is not a lot more expensive than my previous third party insurance and does not require a survey or anything similar - in a way it almost seems too good to be true.

Would welcome comments both pro and con in hopes that I can quell my concerns.

Cheers

You're going to have to give a bit more information about the type of insurance you had from Pan. and now have from Yachting24, i think?

As a new customer I tested Y Insurance in August. The policy started early May as a new customer. The claim was small, about 1500 quid.

Filled an online claim form 9.30 pm, 8.30 next morning claim approved, 3 days after invoices submitted by email money paid into our bank.

Superb service with great communication all the way.

Recomended.

Good morning:

I obviously was wrong when posting my question as I was hoping to receive comments from others who might have insured with Yachting24 so I could judge if I had made a good decision to insure with them or not.

I certainly didn't expect to create a medium for advertising competitors. I don't know what those touting the services of Y Yacht Insurance think their comments have to do with my post - if their aim is to tout another company I suggest they create their own post.

Why did you move from Pantaenius? I have had two large claims in the past three years with their Mallorca office and they were excellent.

For a start this is a forum so you don't control who says what. For a second you have been asked to provide more information in order to help people to answer your vague question but instead of supplying it you have just had a go at others trying to make relevant contributions. Perhaps you need to adjust the way you interact if you feel you are not getting the results you wish.

The problem with trying to get feedback on insurers, particularly small ones like the one you are with is that first, very few people use them and second even fewer have a claim. In addition just because one person has difficulties with a claim does not mean that others would have the same difficulties. For example i have had boats insured continuously for over 40 years and have had two claims, one small and the other fairly large (1987 storm damage) and both settled easily. This is probably quite representative of general experience. So you are only likely to get a very small sample such as the one from rotax and unlikely for it to be about your insurer. However that does not mean you have made a bad choice!

The reason several people have suggested you consider Y Insurance is because they have arguably the best policy on the market now and are generally cheaper than others. Plus the company is run by an ex Pants manager who is very experienced in the needs of cruising sailors. Just for the record, i insured my new boat with them and they were significantly cheaper than most other quotes, including Bishop Skinner who I have been with for over 10 years.

Buying insurance is in many ways an act of faith as most of us never need to make a claim, so you can only judge on the level and range of cover and perhaps the way that they deal with you when buying.

Good afternoon:

I changed simply because I found I could get comprehensive insurance from an off shoot of theirs for slightly more than I was paying for only third party insurance. No complaints as I never had a claim - simply a matter of getting increase coverage for slightly more money.

Also Y Yacht Ins boss, Barrie Sullivan is a very experienced sailor of many yrs standing, not an Office Wallah with a computer screen

Good afternoon:

I have been digging around to see if there was any indication that you were a moderator or administrator of this forum but can't locate any indication that you are anything other than a member in good standing.

As such I don't think I need to be lectured by you so may I politely invite you to butt out and mind your own business unless you have something to contribute to the original post.

As I said, this is a forum and neither you nor I get any control over what others write on it. It seems though that you don't like this concept. Perhaps the internet is not for you. As others have explained, you have not provided enough information for an informed discussion and you are not interested in anything but a very narrow range of replies that you are unlikely to get.

Good evening:

Don't know what's with you - have you found yourself at loose end and nothing to do?

I am probably as familiar with the forum concept as you or any other member although I am not sure about those who took this thread as an opportunity to tout for Y Yachts insurance.

I did not invite an informed discussion - I attempted to ask for experiences and wisdom of using Yachting24 as an insurance company.

Also please note that others have not explained that I did not provide sufficient information - one member commented: You're going to have to give a bit more information about the type of insurance you had from Pan. and now have from Yachting24, i think? , In my opinion his thinking was off or he had not taken in the details in my post because I had stated that I changed from "third party" to "comprehensive". What other type of information would he have thought that I needed to provide - maybe insurance excess or value insured?

If you are bored and have nothing better to do I suggest you go play with your XBox while I wait to see if any of the other members have had any experience with Yachting24 that they might wish to post.

Have a pleasant evening.

Squeaky.

See post #9 for an explanation as to why you are unlikely to get much feedback on that particular insurer. It is not one that seems to be commonly used by people here.

The reality is that you have a contract with them that has cover as described in their terms and conditions. Provided your claim is covered by the policy you will be paid. However, that does not mean that there will never be a dispute, nor that the way they deal with a claim from others is likely to have any effect on the way they deal with you.

I am afraid you will only find out how good they are if you have a claim.

Never heard of Yachting24. Have just moved to Y so can only comment that having read their policy it provides exactly the cover I want at a lower price than I was paying to GJW.

Good afternoon:

I suppose it would be wrong to point out that I don't recall you ever contributing anything that I found of interest in the past so don't know if I shall notice the fact that you have said you won't contribute anything in future.

If I am ever really stuck and can't find the answer I am looking for from other members maybe I shall come looking for your contribution hat in hand so to speak.
