Complex charging at La Linea

"They really are making life difficult for themselves with such a complicated system"

From what you have written, it seems like it was difficult for you, not the marina. On your next visit to the area you could try Gibraltar where at least you won't have to be worried by the tax calculation.

The trivial math involved wasn't exactly beyond me. I was simply pointing out the fact that it seemed likely to generate errors and a few others had experiences indicating this was indeed the case. I've also run into a few other people who had incorrect bills, so it is worth making your own estimate prior to checking out.

I haven't seen details of T5 calc. but did know enough to estimate it within a couple of Euro and therefore knew the likely overall amount. The marina staff billing errors largely cancelled each other out. I did stay in Gibraltar as you suggest but could only get a berth for 2-3 nights maximum whereas La Linea had plenty of space.

On Thursday, my bill for a 12m berth in Alcaidesa marina was 19.74. The T5 tax was the princely sum of 73 cents.

I expected around 3.14 / day based on a table from Ayamonte (Isla Canela). However, La Linea came up with 2.511 and then added IVA (to a Tax!!) to get 3.04, so close to figure I expected. Of course they managed to charge for a larger boat but fewer days and left of electricity so it all cancelled out.

I'd expect about 1.45 / day for a 10m boat, perhaps they're on low season rate now (50% would be about 0.73). Of course that's low season for T5, not La Linea as I think that doesn't start until 1st Nov. Even more complex that I thought if that's the case.

BTW La Linea calc'd T5 as Len. x Beam x 0.0483 x 1.21 (for IVA). :D

Just a note, we hauled out at the Varadero this week ( we did same last year) and again the service is excellent and efficient both marina staff and engineers Elias Blanco, they are certainly one of the best yards I the last 5 years we have been in the west med, we came in to change engine mountings and not only was the quote excellent but the work done very well and the guys also cleaned the engine bay at the end, very impressed as I had started to do this and they said No part of the service :) they will get more work from me for sure. We home port at Queensway in Gib but there really are no service companies left in Gib to get work done without a wait of 6 weeks plus !!!!!

Oh , I decided that we needed the keel blasted, a contractor was brought in that after noon and was done and given an epoxy coat the same night. :0

That got me interested to look again! All the times Ive been in there, never looked before.

I got T5 transit less than 12m sail. 39.02 square m x 0.0186 euros, 0.7258 rounded up to 73 cents.

As you say, that's added to transit berth charge before IVA (Spanish VAT) .

The T5 is rarely listed on other marina bills round here but overall, Alcaidesa is on the cheaper side.

Plus the marina bar has fab food!!

Agree, good yard, lifted boats there a few times now. Tried Isla Verde with no IVA but much easier for getting to and fro for me in La L.

Also used another local South African engineer for lots of work, together with him changed 16 hull valves and one cutlass bearing this year!

Blanco are ace for getting Volvo spares, often within hours.

Got 2 yachts booked out there again mid January if that counts as a recommend!
