Simonfraser, I will be putting in some oversized conduit and as the boat is quite small there is not much problems with access. I will probably leave a pull-through as well.

I know what you mean pilotwolf re visability but I think everything will have to be a compromise of some sort unless I spend my entire budget on lights.
I am currently thinking of this setup:
Nasa tricolor and anchor light (? glued together) at the top of the mast
Replace the bulb in the masthead (half way up mast) with a white LED and another for the combined decklight
Replace the bulbs in the stern and side lights with appropriate coloured LED's ( maybe from here)
I will also have a coule of waterproof deck sockets for hanging an LED bulb either in the forward triangle of the cockpit.
I think this is a good compromise. If it turns out the replacement bulbd dont do the job I will have to buy separate units but it would really hit my budget. Maybe I could run a test next season and report back!

There is no need to replace the masthead (steaming) bulb with LED as it is only used under power. It`s the lights you use under sail only that have to be misers with the amps - Redgreen bicolour, stern, tricolour and anchor.
Thats a good point mitiempo I hadn't thought of that. one nice bright light!
Just spent the afternoon ripping out all the wires. Both starboard and port Nav lights had signs of heat damage on the wires where they passed throught the coachroof. The port light looks like it will need replaced. Perhaps this rewiring hasn't come a minute too soon!
