Re Compass Tender

Are you certain that this was a genuine Compass website.
I just hope that some African Prince has not obtained your cc details and is milking your accounts.
Sorry to worry you
If something appears too good to be true it probably isn't

If they had typed in the url for the compass24 homepage and then tried to find the items in question they would have realised it was not genuine.

Too late now. Just shows how greed can bypass common sense.

No I reckon it was a genuine Compass page, just that they made some ghastly mistake. I bet they will get out of it as well, but it will be interesting to see if one or two get through for 3p. It'll be even more fun if everyone gets charged the correct amount!

If you run your cursor over the link on the first post, the url will appear in the status bar just above the start button - this looked - and looks - genuine enough.

That can't happen - we have offered 3p so they can't take more than that. The issue seems to be whether the email confirmation constitutes an acceptance of that offer. There is apparently some case law to say that it does.

Plenty of fingers crossed /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

well, we shall see. I ordered one but dont really expect to see it.

just received an order acknowledgement at £ 0.03 plus postage of £6.50.

Odd really - someone please tell me that I havent bought a childs toy boat

The law would never enforce something that is clearly a mistake. Your offers would not be considered bona fidae. It will however give them a lot of administrative hassle.

"My own order for a dinghy was only to increase numbers in order to wind up the level of chaos in Compass H.O. on Monday morning!!"

...and that won't cause them financial loss?

[ QUOTE ]
I don't expect anyone believes they'll actually receive a dinghy for 3p

[/ QUOTE ] Well Compass 24 has a fantastic fully computerised, robot operated, warehouse. Within a very short time the items ordered would have been picked from the racks and collected by their transportation contractor. They have probably left Germany by now and may well even be in the UK ready for delivery on Monday.

The only thing that may save the day for them will be that they only had a limited number in stock and the order for further supplies probably has not yet been sent to Plastimo.

I think you're exaggerating the outcome

[/ QUOTE ] Or i might not have been serious!

Arent we all being a bit pious / pompous here? I've bought a dinghy at 3p and I would expect a big company like Compass to honour its offer (as the bishop said to .... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif ). Thats what I always did when I made a mistake giving a price to a customer.

Got a spot booked on e bay for the result. 'Twil make a change from me being ripped off.

... and your point is?

I for one shall not let them off the hook in a hurry. They offered a dinghy at hefty discount, and have accepted my order by the issue of an order number.

I now await delivery of my dinghy.

And I too would love to be there tomorrow morning when they find they have sold the entire UK stock of these things for around a fiver!

SWHTPS and I were in a discount outlet yesterday. There were a number of discount signs reading '10% marked price' and a few that read '10% off marked price' a subtle difference of wording but a huge difference in price.
SWHTPS asked an assistant if it was correct and was was told 'if that's wot it says dear, then it's 10% of the marked price'. My skeptical mind warned me that it's mistake or a ruse to get us to the till with armfuls of stuff expecting to pay very little for them. The interesting thing for me, especially after reading all this threepenny boat stuff, is how, just for a moment, I actually thought I wanted as much chocolate as I could carry! Scary stuff. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Not sure they are on a hook, one print out of this forum would convince any court that it was blatantly an error. Are Compass that bad that everyone wants to punish them? or is this cabin fever?

I have not had time to view their T&C's but order acknowledgment is not order confirmation or acceptance. We have had a similar situation in the early days of our online sales in my Company and although we did honour the price the financial loss in terms of profit was not to the scale of this situation I suspect.

Then again maybe it is a genuine sale /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif as a loss leader /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
