Compass Fluid Whoopsi

Cold BBQ fluid and srynge it was, and now, after a good old bit off Fairy to degrease it, it works fine and looks better than I have ever had it. The question is, will I still point in the right direction? If not I can always go to plan B and buy a new one, but it seems fine and no markings have dissolved yet. Thanks for the top (up) tips!

Drain compass then half fill with weak solution of cold water and detergent and gently swirl around the compass interior. Drain and repeat with plain cold water and drain again. Buy glycerine from Boots, enough to give you 33% of a solution made up in a jug with distilled water. Syringe it into the compass and with a bit of patience you'll even get rid of that last little bubble......but don't worry if you don't. Cost, around £2.50p.
