Compare prices instantly across 16 leading UK chandleries

I had a 'zero response' to my search query 'bainbridge D-type anchor galvanised 10kg'. 5 stores of your list of 14 failed to respond. 3 attempts, 3 failures. I know that Force 4 stock 'em.

So, didn't work for me.

Thanks oldbilbo, I'll check out what's happening on the no responses.

On the anchor search, Force 4 may have it in stock, but not on their website as far as I can see.

I would be inclined to add CactusNav / MES (who I think are the same company). Usually very competitive on marine electronics.

"When I reject your cookie"

"Cynical Scots Engineer"

"...not have the pleasure"

Your choice.

Why decline a cookie for a site you want to go to?

Denying oneself 'pleasure' is a bit self defeatist, is it not?

You can always delete the thing afterwards if you are worried about letting them on your computer.

Doing a search with two words returns too many results.
i.e. If I want pricing on Epifanes Wood Finish Gloss by entering 'Epifanes Wood' I get loads of results that don't contain 'Wood' in their name.

I'm intrigued by this thread. Those of us who have commercial interests in boating have to be very careful not to use the forums for sales and marketing purposes. The OP is soliciting feedback on, and also promoting, a commercial venture, but no-one seems to object.

I've always assumed that if I were to post about my site when we made changes to the format or introduced new products there would be howls of protest. Have I misjudged the forum mood? Are we becoming more tolerant of spamming, like some of the US sites?

Interesting.

As far as I'm concerned you can post as much as you like, especially any new products. No doubt the howls of protest would be from the 'moderators' whoever they are! Maybe we should have a 'Commercial Forum' ?

I think your Chandlery (www.saltyjohn.co.uk) could be included in the search site too...

+1

Nothing wrong with people touting their businesses - that's how I find the things I need.

Maybe a commercial Forum is the answer.

Great idea 'Helford Cutter for sale at http://www.jryachts.com/'...

;)

I'd hoped my post would be acceptable and I've been very gratified by the response. I'm working hard to implement people's various suggestions. Of course I'm aware that forum members can be sensitive, especially when a newbie pitches up and maybe isn't so aware of the local mores. But I'd resist the "spam" categorisation - it's a single thread in one forum. A forum for commercial postings sounds like a good idea to me.

Why on earth should rejecting a cookie bar you from visiting a site?
Because that is how the web works. You have to store your search in a cookie, so the search facility can pick it up again. Every shopping site you visit does exactly the same.

There is nothing wrong with same site cookies, it is only 3rd party ones you should block.

That's all true, but it's pretty rude of me to completely block people who turn down my cookies. They should be able to access the site, various nice things won't work but the main search functionality will still work.
