Without paying for the engine manufacturers brand (ouch!), has anyone found a readily available CI-4 spec, mineral diesel engine oil?

I've just looked at a fairly extensive stock within a Motor Factor but couldn't find CI-4 spec. Most seemed to stop at CF-4.

Viscosity of 10w30 or 15w40, according to the handbook.

Much appreciated.

Won't CI be synth or semi?
You could try the likes of Morris, Rock, any other oil brands, or a motor sports retailer for advice?

Shell Rimula R4. It should be available from your local shell wholesaler. Rimula is such a widespread product that it should also be available from most commercial chandlers. Have a look at the shell site for details.
http://www.shell.com/global/product...oils/advanced-multi-grade-oils/rimula-r4.html. Just looked and thats a 15/40 but the Rimula range is pretty much the industry standard these days so will likely have what you need.

Try http://www.gannonoils.co.uk/ no idea what their like but they seem to serve your area.

Easily available from Volvo Penta dealers. Their VDS3 oil is 15W-40 and CI-4. OK, a few quid more maybe, but it costs money to drive around looking for cheaper deals.
