Which is most powerful - 12v Rotary tool like the Lidl one, or mains one like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400545560478 ? I've got a 12v one that runs very fast, but slows down and even stops when you try to make it do any serious work, i.e. it has very little torque power. Are the mains ones any better?

I have a 240v Black & Decker one and it works great. I bought a 12v one from Aldi to keep on the boat and its rubbish. For a start, the chuck & collets provided won't take the decent sized Dremel/B&D fittings and its underpowered. Its really only a lightweight bit of kit. Best go for a 240V version.

I bought a 9.6v rechargeable rotary tool from Lidl a few weeks ago & reckon it's a cracking bit of kit.Far better than the 10v Dremel which I also bought, fortunately the one & only collet that came with it was sieved in there so I was able to get my money back.:)
If you are filling in holes & blemishes, that sort of thing in gel coat work I reckon it's priceless.Highly recommended.
Shall certainly buy that accessories kit which looks very good value for money.
PS:Notice that 12v ones top speed is 20.000 revs. Some additional cutting discs I bought recommend 25/6.000 revs so it might not be as good.

I bought the grinder last time round, and its rubbish. The motor is so weak you can virtually stop it with any sort of pressure from your work piece against the continuous belt sander. Move on, there's nothing to see here.

240 watts !

Similar Clarke machine is only 210 watts

But if you pay £100 you can get a 490 watt machine. Only get what you pay for I guess
