try coming in downwind and when abeam the berth, do a hard 180. Timed right, you should stop right next to the pier, assuming the pier is aligned
upwind/downwind.(if not, perhaps you could row in...).of course the boat was an 18 foot sloop rigged.
(or if you've seen the movie "captain ron" he makes a rather spectacular landing with a larger boat)
