Comfy Lifejacket?

I was wondering whether to treat myself to a new jacket, not that there's anything really wrong with our current ones. So who's got these Spinlock chappies, and are they any good. Better still - can anyone vouch what use they are in the water?

I've found the Kru sport pro very comfy. Can't say if it would be the same for a female - I don't think moobs give a proper qualification to offer an opinion.

:)

I think lifejackets are rather like boots - you have to try them on. SWMBO found that the older style Crewsaver, with different positions for the webbing at the back, was better than most. I have new style Crewsaver with the zipped stole which I like.
Spinlock are certainly very popular.

What's the flavour of the season for choice of lifejacket?

Preferably complete with sprayhood, light and crutch straps, and one that's comfy to wear for a female!

Most women find the Baltic Argus or winner very comfortable. They have a nice collar. I sold 1 to a lady student this week after having tried on several different makes.

I've got a comfy (but jazzy!) zebra print life jacket from the southampton boat show. Was £70-ish. I'm getting some more (when I can afford them) for my boat, I think they are new but they're made by seasafe.

Not sure the website but they're on twitter www.twitter.com/blow_your_cover

Or contact me - I'm a distributor for south coast. You can have them in a range of covers and your boat name.

Ive seen these jackets in the flesh.

I'm a big fan of Kru and Spinlock, but when I replace my boats lifejackets I will be getting these from David. Excellent value for a product with premium feel.

Excellent finish, zipped enclosure making repacking easy and the personalised embroidery makes them harder to lose/have stolen and looks fantastic. Not sure the piccie does the embroidery justice, it's the proper stitched type not a stick on thing. And yes it is a proper jacket with a separate bladder!!!

I have just spent a most worthwhile day doing a Sea Survival course in southampton, which included a two hour session in a pool with liferaft. I chose to wear my one Mk 1 Spinlock in order to see how it fared compared to other "standard" designs. The main conclusion was that the Spinlock crutch straps (which are actually a pair of thigh straps down the outside of the leg) are far more effective that the usual single strap under one's crown jewels. And it is so important to have an effective means of keeping the life jacket pulled down if you are to avoid slipping out from the life jacket and drowning.

In other respects the Spinlock was no better or worse than the others in the pool. I was quite surprised at how tight around one's neck the inflated bladder was, which severely restricts ability to move one's head. Also horrified at how difficult it was to swim, and to climb into the liferaft. And all this while in the safety of a warm pool. So the two conclusions are
1. A good fitting l/j is vital, do test it inflated before committing if you can.
2. Stay on the boat at all costs!

PS There must be a specialist market for women with well developed chests. The standard l/j s yesterday simply could not be fastened securely around their shapes.......
