Its a spinnaker change where there is one spinnaker always drawing .. its quite a complex procedure requiring some fairly well rehearsed crew .. otherwise potential for embarassment is great
GR now sorted and will be back in the water next week. Kiss Marine have done a super job rebuilding the stock (of the new!!! rudder) and the quadrant now grasps properly, the cables are now correctly tensioned with lots of room on the cable ends and the steering is no longer stiff. Suspect that during the initial repair one of the cables was fitted running outside the rim of one of the turning block leading to the stiffness and apparent shortness in cables.
However it was probably a blessing cos it led me to find the dangerous condition of the fitted rudder stock/ quadrant interface when investigating the stiffness. Otherwise !!!!!!!!!!!!
Hoist the new one inside the old one, Use either redundant sheet or guy, or short strop to hold new one until you can swap, trip the old one from the pole end , and collect it using its sheet. You can do it insided or outside, often you,ve got spare sheets guys as your changing from heavy to light, and hence have light sheets to change to as well. Great when it works..for short leg races its questionable if its worth it with the extra weight on the foredeck getting ready and tidying up.
Delighted that at last you are making progress and might even get wet soon. In hindsight, it was fortuitous, but I am sure it has taken you a while to accept that!
Sunnyseeker got it in one. The only thing he/she omitted to mention was the fun you can have when you attempt to drop spinny two and discover that the halyard is twisted around that of spinny one and that both are plaited around the forestay. Sods law dictates that this always happens in front of the Beken launch, the Squadron, or the committee boat.
