I have found this one

Has anybody tried this combined unit out?

Do you have or know of an alternative that is a plugable USB COMBINED GPS and AIS Receiver.?

I currently use my AIS GPS Transponder to provide nmea signals for gps and ais via the boat network to my mini PC system which can operate open cpn or android navionics.

I have been trialling a pipo unit for 12 months and one of these new units over Christmas
http://www.pipo-store.com/pipo-x9.html

It is all working fine but is heavily dependent upon the boat network working without any glitches and I am aware of a high level of data being transferred through an aged Simrad IS 15 system. It is also quite hard to set up as it involves soldering irons plugs and sockets and a high degree of techie input!

I want to simplify the setup and have a simple standalone fanless pc system that is simple plug and play computer/ chartplotter without the complication of ais and gps nmea data routing through Navmon PC and serial connectors. Having the boat instruments networked would be an option.

The above dongle should enable anyone to be able to have a Full AIS Capable Touch Screen 9inch Chartplotter operating with either up to date charts on open cpn with a visit my harbour dongle or android Navionics that can be put together without any great techie knowledge

for less than £250.00.

At the moment I dont intend to use this above decks except in very fine weather but I am going to have a go at weather proofing the Box with the help of a 3D printed base mount. I dont ever expect it to be IP68 rated!

Sounds like an interesting dongle . But doesn't mention GPS anywhere apart from the title, plus no socket for a gps antenna. Looks like AIS only.
Still cool though

Did i copy the right link?

"The SEANEXX RX210 AIS receivers in the size of a commercially available USB stick is designed for computer based navigation systems.
Just plug the SEANEXX into a USB port and connect it to an external VHF antenna or splitter and receive AIS signals.
Easy installation - no extra hardware installation work and no extra power supply needed.
The AIS receiver receives both AIS channels simultaneously (Full Dual Channel setup, Ch.1: 161.975 MHz and Ch.2: 162.025 MHz).
With integrated GPS to receive your own GPS position.
Usable with any AIS compatible navigation software like OpenCpn, MaxSea or similar. Developed and manufactured in Austria."

http://www.seaangel.at/shop/en/SEANEXX/product-27-48-49.html Is for the Sea Angel wifi system which comes with its own antenna and transmits the AIS data over wifi. All for €318 plus delivery...... Have to say I'm tempted for use on the project boat which will be using iPad for navigation and will lack the battery power to make a pc a viable option.
