I am searching for a yacht to liveaboard with my wife, initially in the med, but hopefully further afield later on, including ocean crossing. I am looking at slightly older boats - both for cost and seakeeping qualities - in the region of 40ft. As well as looking at Westerly Oceanlords, Moody 40s & a Nic 39, etc, I have noticed a number of Colvic Victor 40s on the market. I appreciate that the standard of fit will vary considerably, but they do seem to offer a lot of yacht for the money. I would be grateful for any views on them, in particular their sailing ability and how they handle under motor.

Many thanks

Neil

They sail like they look, and are usually fitted with substantial engines. Generally cheaper than production boats of similar size for the reasons you mentioned - but were very popular in their day as liveaboards.

Hi............I have one for sale in Portsmouth. They are sturdy ...weigh about 11-13 tonnes depending on fit out....'belt and braces' boats. They need about a f6+ to sail at 7-8 knots...and..fitted with the right engine/gearbox set up,they will motor at about 7 knots @ about 5 litres an hour.Obviously at a more sedate rate...4-5 knots...the consumption is just less than 1/2 that...Look for one with a bow thruster if possible, they are a bit of lump to manouevre stern to in some of the Med. marina berths
They make very good live-aboard boats.

Hope this helps..
