I'm colour blind so don't trust my own judgement. Does anyone know an off the shelf match for the dark blue stripe on a Westerly? Although our boat is not a Westerly it is very similar.

Because of fading with time and not being sure whether the blue stripe had been repainted on my 38 year old Westerly I went down to B&Q and and got some colour charts for exterior gloss - then matched those with the boat to find the nearest fit. My plan is to touch up the stripe where fenders have worn it away rather than redo the whole - but will have to see how that pans out once I'd done it.

An attempt to match a paint with the original Westerly might not work because of the action of sun and weather over the years.

It is easier to replace the stripe with Vinyl. Go to any local company that does Vinyl signs for vans etc (there will be one local to you), and ask them for samples for dark blue, they will be happy to help. Or SAC Marine Graphics will provide samples of their stripes within a couple of days.

Ooh that's a thought if my colour matching attempt doesn't work in practice. Difficulty might be the patchy colour of the existing stripe being visible through the vinyl.

My recollection was that Centaur stripes were in vinyl - It also worked well on a Mirror dingy though . Maybe Trafalgar marine at Fareham can tell you more though and stock the genuine Westerly version even today or look /post on the WOA site for more info?

My early Fulmar had a red painted stripe that looked wrong, so I repainted it in Oxford Blue International Toplac. This is an almost exact colour match to the blue vinyl that Westerly used.
