I have got engines out of boat now (due to my little saga reported here a couple of weeks back) it's all a bit of a mess.

One bell housing has had the end smashed off of it by the flailling drive shaft, this ripped apart the bellows, allowed water into flywheel casing, which forced through the starter motor, causing a short out and started a small fire.
The drive shaft is bent approx 10mm, and has a chunk out of it, the drive plate cracked in 3 places.
So boy & girls, don't ignore a grumbling bearing.

If you want to see the damage, click on the link below, as I have just put up a picture of it.

(ps) The good one's on the left, but I took it out to check-just incase.

Going to SBS??

My boats in he water, yipeee ;-)

Back on the water in 2 weeks or so hopefully. Will be @ SBS but not sure which day. How about you?
As an aside, so much room with no engines, could convert to extra cabin, and fit a mast instead. I could be the only Suns****r raggie on the Solent, cool eh?

It's a little bit broken! You were lucky it didn't come completely adrift and fly out of the bellhousing and through the bottom of the boat, I've seen that happen with drastic results! Came through the floor aswell!

You're right, it could have been so much worse, I couldn't believe how much water it was taking on. This happened 40miles SSW of the Needles, luckily it didn't catch fire 'till I was back at the mooring. If it happened at sea, it might not have been noticed so quickly. It was fortunate that someone saw smoke coming out of the air intakes, something you wouldn't notice on the move.
