COLREG - near miss between a cruise ship and a 46' MoBo

What, because I left out the rolly eye icon from the end of the last sentence  then again you did number all your paragraphs, so must have thought they were worth reading

Colregs debates unfortunately have the tendency to drag in bitch slapping raggies, with open books, reciting chapter and verse, desperately trying to prove themselves more knowledgeable than others.

Don't have a problem with that, after all it just comes with the territory, you expect it.

What about your line, "people who dismiss qualified and experienced ship masters as idiots".....how do you know who was on the helm at the time? or was it the fact the ship had sails that made it so proper.

Reading the endless whinings on Scuttlebutt how the big red ferries (with qualified and experienced masters) show no respect to the poor sailors, and run them down indicates not all commercial captains get it right.

You, however crossed the line with that personal jibe about a good friend of mine, who just happens to be a highly accomplished global cruiser. So guess what?

Take a look at your own public image, you've been on the forum for nearly two years, but haven't got the gonads to display a Bio with anything about yourself.
In my books that reeks of a soft c@ck (apologies if female), with no credibilty on past achievements, so just keep on dreaming about real men like Scott, who gain respect by putting their real name next to what they are about.

have a nice day :)

Leaving aside the fact that you don't like me very much (something I'll have to try really hard to come to terms with), you have not answered my previous question:

'5. Now, can you please tell me what you think the two vessels ought to have done? ' .

As to your remark: ... how do you know who was on the helm at the time?' The answer is, of course, that I don't know but your hero refers to him as the '... the Idiot Captain ...' so I have had to take his word for it.

You then go on to complain about the lack of information in my profile. I always try and include any information in my posts that is relevant to what is being discussed. But what, exactly, would you like to know? I am quite happy to give you any information you require although, being concerned for the safety of my family, you'll forgive me if I don't let you have my address.

Thank you also for wishing me a nice day - that's very kind of you. It has certainly got off to a very enjoyable start.

Blimey folks, I can't stay a couple of days without looking at the forum, and here's my innocent post transformed in yet another proper rant...! :D

I did have the same doubts that others raised, after reading what SF wrote.
Otoh, I didn't think for a minute that anyone onboard those two vessels was an idiot, and I still don't.
The fact that sometimes even experienced helmsmen (an it's a safe bet that both were more experienced than YBW forumites, on average - more than myself, anyway) can make different assumptions on a crossing situation is a fact of life, I'm afraid. Which surely doesn't imply, in most cases, that idiocy is the reason behind such different assumptions.
Besides, assessments made in front of a keyboard are always easier than in front of a wheel...

Fwiw, even if I see reasons why SF shouldn't have complained so much about the ship helmsman behaviour, I still think that he's one of the most interesting MoBo personalities around, and I hope to have the opportunity and the privilege to meet the Flanders while they are around Italy.
I'm sure that a chat with them would be way more interesting than any colreg debate... :)

Ah, the voice of reason. I was thinking that I've almost clocked up a million miles in various road vehicles without too much collateral damage and yet just the other night I hit a kerb on the way out of the office carpark.
