I was the one who posted a query last year. As you I am also RG colour blind and failed the DoT Lantern test. However, the guy who gave the test said that only about 1% of candidates ever pass that test - if I'd have known I probably wouldn't have bothered. When applying for a Commercial endorsement my doctor gave me 3 Ishihara plates to test for colour blindness, and I failed on one. The Coast Guard referred me to my local optician and I underwent a full examination including a book of 20 or so similar plates! I was marginal on one or two but got them the second time around, and so gained a clean bill of health from the eye doctor. As others have mentioned, it's the difference between low intensity green and white that I had difficulty with on the Lantern test, but I have no problem out in the 'real world'. Apparently it's the more common weakness, but as I said, in my case it only appears to be marginal at worst.
