Suppose most Woolworths customers have trouble thinking of a use for a collapsible bucket ("workshop" range) but at £1.48, reduced from £5, I reckon it's worth a try on board. If it collapses terminally I have just added to the Solent's flotsam, if it works -- well, it's only 5cm thick and I can use the space saved.

You really need at least one bullet proof metal bucket, for fire safety reasons if nothing else. I was always cheap in the matter of buckets but have ended up with a stainless jobby and a high quality thick rubber one. Since the one fits inside the other I'm only giving up one lot of space. Believe it or not a metal bucket is a requirement in German waters.

Is that so it can double-up as a helmet? (No, no no no, no.......)

No they use them as reasons to look at all your paperwork while carefully hiding their sense of humour a very long way away. Haven't you ever met a German policeman?
