Last time out in Alcudia I was sat at a beachside bar enjoying a nightcap looking out at the boats anchored just outside the harbour walls. After a while it occured to me that not one of them were displaying their Anchor Light - I checked the boats anchored off Puerto Pollensa the following night and the same applied. These were definitely boats at anchor and not on permanent moorings.

Is this normal? I even displayed mine on Windermere which isn't even subject to the coll regs. Also noticed that no-one shows anchor balls during the day either.

oh, poor ole meddreamer, i didn't realise how utterly rubbish it is, in the med having a nightcap in a beachside bar, how ghastly. Next time, praps ask for a drink instead of a deadly poisonous shrub, maybe?

Anyway, yep, all rubbish brains if no anchor light. But see, if they are saily then they are Saving Batteries. Usually, in france at least, the bigger boats have an anchor ball. I belive that *any* light is just about legal But no light ...isn't.

You will be pleased to note that i have an anchor ball, AND the Not Under Command shape as well, and am really hoping to have a breakdown so i can usem, thus avoiding any loud beachside tutting. Mind you, if the nuc light break down, er what lights do i display to show the nuc lights hav busted?

I am sorry I can't help you with the NUC problem, I only have Dayskipper and I believe "How to panic like a professional" is Yachtmaster level.

Due to Kim banning the use of naughty words, I am not able to respond to your comment regarding the deprevations invoved in drinking at med-side bars but I think I get your point :)

As a saily boat driver, can only assume that they are the geriatric division, who go to bed so early that they don't realise it gets dark. I'd never be able to find my way back to the boat from the bar if everyone else put their light on, so please don't get them started.

<hr width=100% size=1>my opinion is complete rubbish, probably.

Vessels of less than 7m not anchored in or near a narrow channel, fairway or anchorage or where other vessels normally navigate are not required to exhibit an anchor light. That's 23' in old money I think - if bigger than then def. require anchor lights to comply with regs.
