Cold galvanizing props and shafts to anti-foul?

Question on behalf of a friend of mine.

His boat is out of the water for copper coating.
Someone has suggested to him that cold galvanising the props and shafts (they're stainless) is an effective anti-foul treatment. Anyone have any experience of this?

I have no experience of this but doubt how well it would work. The cold process is just a zinc rich paint. Zinc isnt particularly good at keeping the underwater furries away - anodes tend to stay cleaner than the rest of the bottom but I think that is because the surface is always disolving because of the galvanic action. I doubt how effective it would be at providing any galvanic protection either as the paint will not conduct electricity. Probably best to use a spray on anti foul on the underwater metal bits. I think hempel do one.
