Need a new fridge to keep the tinnies cool and I am looking around. Seen some Coolmatics for anything from £700 to £1000 and Isotherms from around the £500 mark (looking at 80 or 100 ltre models). Can anyone tell me anything about these makes, particularly the Isotherm (it wins on price)?

Any other makes reccomended? (heard Waeco are OK).

Thanks.

If you want to spend that much cash, you have a good choice there. We and some of our friends have several cheapies - £25 from boaty shops, or slightly more. Halfords doing one today at around £50 down from £120; it can stand like a fridge or be carried on its side. These do not chill down warm beer/wine quickly but will over 24 hours or so. We bung ours in the freezer at home for up to 4 hours then transfer to car wrapped in blanket until at boat. Keeps really cold for days that way - obviously transferring into the cooly boxes later. This way, even if your coolly only lasts a few seasons, you have saved a lot of cash for the things that will cost money - ie repairs, lift and scrubs etc etc etc.. Roy

Thanks. We did use electric cool boxes last year but we are looking to spend a lot more time on the boat and need something for extended stays. Don't really want to spend the money though!

Since found out that Coolmatics are Waeco!

they all use Danfoss compressors, so it makes no odds. The compressors are far more efficient (but 5-6 times the cost) of the Halfords stylee coolboxes. Pays ya money...

I find my fridge so damn noisy that at night I transfer food into an electric coolbox and switch the fridge off! I also do this if leaving the mooring for more than a few hours to save on battery life.
