Coded Vessels

Would anybody have a link to the relevant DOT web page governing the requirements of a sailing vessel to conform to the relevant legislation with regards to charting and/or skipper charter.
Particularly what is required in addition to the normal safety items found on board ie, Liferaft, flares, grabbag, VHF, relevant insurance, Dan Bouys, LifeLines, Lifejackets etc...

Basically there is very little safety equipment you will need that you would not buy for yourself anyway, well I hope you would. Lifejackets/harnesses with lights for number of crew plus two, RORC flares, two horseshoe bouys, TPAs, liferaft, first aid kit, danbouy, DSC radio etc.
You will also need to modify your boat; fire proof hoses in engine room, re-route heads plumbing, power cross-over, storm jib etc.
However if you think you will make any money you are basically dreaming. Insurance will be about 1.5% of total value, you will need to be on an attractive marina (read expensive) mooring and maintaince is a heavy burden. Realistically the best you will do is to contribute to your costs.
There are currently a lot of owners along the South Coast who have been sold this route by various companies and are now regreting it.
A nice 38' AWB might make £20K a year in charter fees if you were very lucky. Figure a five year working life, £6K mooring fees, £2K insurance, advertising, repairs and tax and you are not going to get rich quick.
