It would appear that both Groupama 3 and Banque Populaire V are both preparing for an imminent departure for the Transatlantic record.

So, as the race against the clock is turning into an actual race, who else is excited at the prospect of 800 miles in 24 hours and a transatlantic sprint of less than four days?

For those that care the 24 hour record has fallen. Groupama 3 currently stands at 824 miles, and the average speed is only getting higher.

Banque Populaire V has also broken 800 miles, and is going faster, and is only 80 miles behind.

Looks like Groupama will break the transatlantic record, only to have it broken again within minutes.


I know most people here get their jollies from slating each others anchors, but this is exciting.

880 in 24 Hours now, BPV is about 8 hours ahead of the record time now and in front of Groupama.

Banque Populaire V has just blown away the 900 mile barrier with a run of 907.9 miles in 24 hours and is 9 hours in front of the record time.

900 miles in a day is simply staggering, at this rate both boats will be finished tomorrow taking a good 12 hours off the record.

A great pic. congratulations to both teams. Just watched some great vid of BPV doing over 40 knots.

Awesome. Was tempted to go down to the Lizard to watch, however weather like this must be spent painting.

A fantastic achievement by both boats though. I'm fully looking forward to the next Jules Verne trophy attempt. BPV is unbeatable in a blow it seems, but Groupama can more than hold their own in the light stuff, so in a circumnavigation it's probably a pretty even match.
