Cockroaches !

we had them in the heating pipe duct of one aprtment out here ... so I took the inspection plate off ... emptied two large cans of Insecticide aerosols into the ducting ... closed cover. Laid Roach "hotels" in numerous places and stuck them to skirtings, behind cooker, fridge etc. etc.

Within few days never saw another ... The "hotels" (Raid Roach traps) I continued to put down a couple in each room out of the way ... change every so often to make sure.

Like I say ... didn't see any more after that ....

Not sure sinking the boat would work. I read that they found live cockroaches in the sunken warships in Scapa Flow.

Apparently one of their more charming habits is to crawl on your face when you`re asleep and drink moisture from the corner of your eyes.

This is also the act of Fleas and other parasites ... It is why the Flea Collar, fluid drops work on Dogs and Cats ... catches 'em as they migrate along to get their drinks ...

Having cleared boat (you hope) of infestation....Guidance on how to stop re infestation : All fruit washed on jetty or in cockpit. NO cardboard boxes inboard. Inspect bottom of all cans jars etc in particular beer cans . The jellified clutches of eggs are laid in all of these. Continue to lay Boric and roach hotels. We managed to keep the buggers out of the boat during many years of tropical cruising following above routine. As an aside , I have vivid memories of reaction of shop staff in Venezuela when asking in less than perfect Spanish for 'hotels for cockroaches' ROTFL but politely best describes it.

Theres an article in the latest edition of Sailing Today on the subject.Basically it recommends Boric Acid for killing them and washing all stores in Milton solution before bringing them aboard also says to was your hands in the soluition as the tiny eggs could be on them.

Apparently paper and cardboard are high risk areas for eggs so dont bring any packaging aboard.

Also in high risk areas it says to sprinkle boric acid on mooring lines.
