Cockpit table advice?

I'm looking at retro fitting a cockpit table to my Sun Odyssey 36i, more for bracing
against than eating off. Just been quoted £1700 by Jeanneau for an OEM item (pictured below), supply only, which I found a bit shocking.
Has any one experience of having a similar table fabricated? The key feature would be the foot bar for bracing. Some idea/ guestimates of cost would also be useful. Is Jeanneau's quote reasonable?

That sounds very toppy for a foot brace. If you do not need or want the table element why not take some photos and dimensions to a local SS fabricator? Your local agricultural supply emporium should be able to point you in the right direction.
I have an SO36i and as you say the footbrace is the most useful part of the table set up.

Thanks. My concern with a simple bar as a brace is that it will be a tripping hazard. I think the table part creates an awareness of the obstruction and also provides some assistance when moving around the cockpit.

Get a frame made by a local stainless fabricator and then make a top and leaves from teak or iroko. Or if you prefer plastic, then it should be pretty simple to source and get it cut to size. Even paying someone to do the work should be a good deal cheaper than the £1700 you're being quoted.

This is a cockpit table I've just finished making, cost £50 for the sapele and £24.99 for a can of International Woodskin. Already have the mounting bracket.

We have been thinking a long time about how to provide bracing to our SO 36i and have rejected the table option due to price. I am currently leaning towards a teak triangular section bracing batten fixed to the cockpit sole. I am nervous about drilling holes there though. Let us know what you decide and I will return the favour if we eventually get round to doing something.

That is a thing of beauty, Graham, but I suspect a similar attempt by me would be less successful.

Will do, Clive. I'm going to measure a table frame and get a quote from a fabricator. If I'm going to drill holes I'm inclined to go the whole hog and get a table.

Thanks, seems both better quality and price than Jeanneau's offering. I've just noticed that £200 of the quote is carriage - the boat is 30 miles from the Jeanneau factory!!! They're starting to make HRs look like good value

You need to check what tables are made from, our last one was veneered ply and didn't weather well in Algarve sun. Funnily enough, the solid sapele I've just made mine from was cheaper than buying teak faced (teak both sides) marine ply + carriage from Robbins.
