Hi all,

The seats finally fell apart this year so I'm having a local chippie knock up some new
Ones in plywood. What treatment would be best to waterproof them and also look
Attractive?

From personal experience with the ply lid on my home made gas box, I hope you haven't spent too much !

Despite copious paint and smearing silicone sealant all over the end grain I'm still lucky to get 2 seasons; if it wasn'ts so easy and cheap to make and works so well, I'd invest in some proper hardwood.

I suggest you try grp resin on all the end grain of your seats.

I made one to keep SWMBO perched on the pushpit so she could see where we were going as opposed to sitting in the cockpit. Just ordinary white gloss paint seems to have been okay for three seasons now.

When I converted the fixed top to opening lids on the cockpit seats of my last boat I edged the ply with T sections (tongue & groove) hard wood. Looked good and lasted more than eight years (when I sold the boat).
PS I used uPVC sheets from a local window fabricator for the vertical front panel's, topped with hardwood to stiffen and make it look good.
