Hi, the Elizabethan 30 has two cockpit lockers with a lifting lid and fold down front. These are currently secured using clasp and eye type hardware. Not only are these frequently 'damaging' to the fleshy calf but also easy to self-lock if one was in the locker. I have looked for an alternative and so far failed to find a satisfactory replacement. Any suggestions?

I installed a rod with two 'L' shaped bits welded to it that locked both hatches from inside the cabin. Nothing on the outside at all.
To unlock pull the rod, to lock push in. The 'L' shaped intentions ran between eye bolt type fittings. More secure than padlocks.

Good luck and fair winds. :)

Strangely enough I have just fitted last w/e the type of catch you might be able to use. My locker is the same type and I needed a catch that was flush fitting on the front (so it dosen't stick out to avoid being caught or gouge the paintwork when the front is folded down on itself) and able to lock the hinged lid down at the the same time.

I used the following: https://www.seascrew.com/browse.cfm?LATCH---CATCHES-IN-STAINLESS---BRASS--MARINE-GRADE&l=0000000281 item 3813183 30mm cylinder lock (at bottom of page).

The flange on the front is only 3-4 thick and could be recesssed as I did so it was flush. The key is removable in both positions, so it dosen't stick out when unlocked.

I just cut a notch into the side of the tongue near the end that then hooks over a short stainless steel strip screwed to the under side of the locker lid when you want to lock it.

I can take pictures of it if it helps next time I am down the boat on Monday.

captainboo, please send/post pictures, that is the type that I have been looking at but could not find one that had a mechanism to lock to the locker lid! DIY!
