I'm thinking of installing LED cockpit courtesy lighting into my SO29.2 and I'd like to do a tidy job. I know I can surface mount the cabling on the inside of the locker (starboard side) but I want to hide the cabling on the aft cabin side. Has anyone had experience of doing this? I've had a quick look and I think there is a gap between the cockpit wall and sole and the cabin interior wall, would it be possible to run any cabling in this gap or is it foam packed ? Advice greatly welcomed.

Running cabling for lighting can be the biggest problem. indeed so difficult that you may well resort to lights with internal batteries. You might find the amount you use them and the long battery life can make battery powered a realistic idea.
You might look at ebay for PIR sensing battery lights. These come on automatically with people movement after dark and switch off after a minute or so and can be really convenient. good luck olewill

Thanks William but I think I didn't explain what I wanted to do with the lights (my fault). I have a cockpit tent which is great for sitting in at night,it gives a bit more room for guests and I think that battery operated PIR LEDs would soon run flat if used as ambient lighting. I have remembered that there is an air gap between cockpit and the inner wall but it's getting the cable around the tight curves to a power supply.

I don't really know the situation, but on my Dehler there is an internal moulding fixed to the boat hull which got in the way of my desire to add a new cable (I was relocating an instrument display). I bought a strong magnet, fixed a small steel object to the end of a string, and pulled the object along from the other side of the moulding. This then enabled me to pull my instrument wiring into place.

That's clever, I would never thought of doing that, I think that will work a treat. The cockpit isn't that big so your idea is perfect .
