We have a large glass fibre engine cover that has got a small diamond non slip pattern moulded into it, after many months of refurbishment of the rest of the boat, this much walked on surface has ingrained oil grease and rusts specs in it. I need to clean it up..

I have read that oxalic acid with get rid of the rust specs but how do I apply it? is it a case of painting it on and leaving it to do its stuff ,if so how long should I leave it? will Oxalic acid attack the GRP??

Any body got any tips to share on getting this back to clean GRP.

Add wallpaper paste to a near saturated solution to make a gel similar to Y10 . It should remove surface stains in 10 minutes or so, then wash off.
Only effective though above about 10C

Initial solution best prepared with warm water.

Does not harm GRP but is more harmful to the users. Protect skin and eyes . Wash splashes off promptly. Do not ingest!

Any iron or steel particles ( eg from grinding) embedded in the surface will rust again and again until all gone

'Bar Keepers friend power cream' will take care of the rust stains.
A degreaser such as 'Elbow Grease' used with some water will deal with the dirt
