Cockpit canopy windows

Has anyone ever tried using solid perspex windows or similar on their canopy?

I've seen then on HR's and a couple of others but these are obviously factory made.

The normal flexible pvc window material is horrible after a couple of seasons so I thought solids may work better.
I could make the frames up using grp and attach them (somehow) to the sunbrella.

Try Stratoglas if you can run to it we got 10 clear view years from ours, then the hood gave up

Ok until you want to fold the sprayhood down or roll up your cockpit enclosure. You would have to have a different design to the standard couple of pivoting arches so the window panel could go down flat. I guess if you never fold it down it's not a problem.

HR has toughened glass in the fixed windscreen, not perspex or similar.

In a recent thread a poster recommended ArmorAll, an automotive pvc cleaner/restorer as having transformed his vinyl hood windows from opaque to transparent. Hope this is true as I have bought a can and will be flying it to Greece.

I guess if you never fold it down it's not a problem.

...but you might as well just build a ply or GRP doghouse and have done with it

I have had Perspex windows on my dog house for several years, apart from some light scratches, it is almost as clear as when it was fitted. It is slightly tinted.

I used stratoglas for 10 trouble free years, hood folded down @ every opportunity

You should be getting more than 2 seasons out of them.

*Always roll window material when storing your canopy away. Never crease or fold
*Use renovo window polish to restore and protect
*Make sure your sprayhood is nice and tight
*Clean regularly
