A great spot. I spent 5 weeks there about 10 years ago, anchored off the hotel on the island (can't rember the name). Used to eat at the South Star just down the road from the ferry terminal. Excellent, very fond memories.

the taj malabar is the hotel on the tip of willington island.the south star is still there on marine drive ernakulam. Its right opposite my office.we stopped using it about 3 years ago.we were sat up having xmas dinner just at the balcony windows when a rat the size of a cat ran along the balcony.my wife went right off her food.cant think why.
yachts anchor of bolghatty island now. between the law courts ferry terminal and the island.
Its 12 years since I first visited. Its changed a lot.

Bolghatty, that's the name I was after, and where we were anchored. The South Star had big glass windows through to the kitchens which we found comforting, although maybe erroneously. Also Woodlands Hotel, and the RBYC were favourites.

Our Katakali was enlived by me feeling something furry move past the back of my legs. First though was, "I hope that's not a rat", but discovered a very small cute kitten which then entertained the two rows around us. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You would not be helping Dr John Crabtree build the Colvin design steel junk rigs boats by any chance. Helped train the locals in boat electrics about 18 months ago.

Tony

no, building a van der stadt 34 at masters shipyard eddakochi, along with a bruce roberts 37 motor boat, plus jack up barge for dubai.
Rosa is looking a little neglected now.
I had retired, but winters in the Ionian can be cold and wet,so did a return trip to cochin in winter, the best time, where I had worked before.one thing led to another, formed a company, company bought a flat phone started ringing ,now back to gulf hours.10x6
with a three year contract no peace and all that.

Hope it all works out well for you. My wife and I sailed to India and anchored our yacht near Bolghaty. Lived off Ambrosia at Micheal's Land for about 7 months. Worked a lot at the slipway in Matencherry which was not is good condition. Designed elec systems and supervised mech and steel work. Not easy but the locals try hard. Had a couple of excellent wordworkers who could do extraordinary work with minimal tools. Left due to one-eye view of Dr John who thought that modern methods did not fit the Colvin design.

If you saw the wing sailed cat called Eldemer in Cochin it is now in the Middle east.

yes i have a couple of carpenters fitting out.I have jig saws. etc they have chisels and hand saws.very good but very slow.
the whole mechanising system is a bug bear. mechanise and 50% of the rice bowls are broken , what to do?luckily India is booming and delivery times have to come down, quality of work has to improve.(Made in India does not have the cachet.of made in germany .japan usa and GB) in that order. but costs are lower but with a 12% inflation rate.big problems.Tthe order book is healthy.inquires are coming faster.have sent a pm to lyn-tony
