Cobra VHF DSC Distress Procedure

The DSC distress call section of the manual for my Cobra VHF says

The distress alarm will sound to let you know that the
message is being sent. At the end of the transmission,
the radio will maintain a watch on Channels 16 and
Channel 70 for an acknowledgement. Press any button
to turn Off the alarm and return to Standby mode.​

Does pressing any button to cancel the alarm also cancel the distress call, or does it just make things a bit more peaceful? For obvious reasons this is not something with which I am keen to experiment ...

Not sure on the Cobra, but for anyone - if you issue, or think you may have issued, a DSC distress please let the CG know and don't immediately turn off the radio - the hours of time and assets we've spent when that has happened are unreal. If we get a DSC alert and nothing further, and then can't contact the sender, we have to treat as a live SAR incident.

You don' say which radio but out of interest i read the first Cobra DSC manual that Google found. I assume they all operate in much the same way though.

The alarm sounds to confirm that the message is being sent.

Pressing any button silences the alarm and returns the set to Standby but the distress message will still be retransmitted at approx 4 minute intervals until an acknowledgement is received or you abort the call.

Thanks. I am writing an idiot's guide which will give no instructions on cancelling, because if I'm there I can do that myself and if I am bobbing about in the wake, watching the boat get smaller, I won't want the thing cancelled.
