Cobbs Quay

I'm thinking of a trip to Poole over the bank holiday.
I've been many times in the past but I've never stayed at Cobbs Quay Marina.

Any comments/recommendations? It seems to be a bit of a way out of town.

MDL facilities bogs/showers etc are top class.
The bar is nasty. Sticky carpets sticky tables.Tatty
Marina set in a 1960s estate of bungalows. Miles from anywhere. Supermarket and chip shop 10 mins walk from marina are the only facilities within walking distance.
Generally not a pretty spot more windswept mudflats with views of Holes Bay bypass and electricity pylons.
Access limited by the swing bridge is also a pain in the bum.
New marina on the quay much better and not that much dearer.

Souless place, better of on the quay for the atmosphere or Dolphin Haven for pontoon berths.If you want berth in dolphin, book now.

Better still looking at the forecast (steady SW) - more up in Studland or Swanage bays and tender in to the Banks Arms or pub crawl Swanage respectively.
If you don't have a tender and need access to showers etc then Dolphin Haven but telephone now - or raft on the Quay (you are more acceptable there than a mobo it seems)
Call any of us up if you are over - call signs are boat names on profiles and we listen out on 16.

where did steady SW come from? One forecast I'm looking at is for NW force 5 Friday along most of south and southwest coast

I'm still trying to get a feel for the weekend weather for my buzz down to Salcombe, and nothing seems very clear, other than strongish winds during this week.

Went there earlier this year - there isn't a lot of water at low tide! My 1.35m draft was touching the putty at low water on a full sized berth; the lanes are very narrow in the marina. Good showers. Pricey. Agree with the nasty bungalows comment. But still nicer than being rafted inside of a load of thoughtless school boats on the Town Quay.

seems to indicate that we may have windows of opportunity over the weekend/monday/tuesday but we will also want to avoid the rain!

You can get a forcast for up to 15 days ahead. (not to accurate though).

the marine forecast only seems to extend as far as Friday, and that is for possibly up to F8 at Portland. Bit more than shower dodging! Unless things calm down dramatically on Sat

Have used this site in the past, seems to be automated, and not dreadfully accurate even a few days forward.

Back to the isobaric charts and a bit of crystal ball gazing and interpretation I think
