Hi folks,
I just got a letter saying that my CG66 has been passed from Aberdeen to Shetland Coastguard as the areas of responsibility are changing. Shetland Coastgaurd will now cover down to Brora point in the Moray Firth and along to Cape Wrath. I presume Aberdeen will be covering further South than before?
Anybody else get anything?

Aberdeen are covering the area previously covered by MRCC Forth, which closed in October.

Areas on the west of Scotland will change formally at the end of the year when MRCC Clyde goes - this will be split between Belfast and Stornoway.

To be honest, the station your CG66 is based at is only the administrative centre for wherever your boat is kept, or your home address. The information is visible nationwide.

Aah, Thanks for the update. I hadnt realised Forth had closed. So on a trip over the Moray Firth now, who do I report a routine traffic call to? It crosses areas of responsibility. Sorry if I sound silly! lol

I'd suggest the lazy way to find out is to listen to whichever station is providing the weather reports on the VHF, that'll be the station to call :)

Ah, just realised that in Caithness that'll be Shetland and you're wanting to know for Moray Firth...if you don't get an answer today i'll stick the VHF on and have listen tonight and let you know! ;)

We get both Aberdeen and Shetland here anyway for the reports. Aberdeen have always come through clear, and Shetland were a bit weaker signal. Dare say Shetland will be using the local booster stations now tho. Not that I will be sailing for a wee while yet tho mind! Solid 1/4" of ice covering everything this morning. Bloomin freezing! I was going to take my old clinker sailing dinghy for a sail on a loch this weekend. No chance with this weather, there wont be any liquid water! lol Cheers!

A number of remote radio sites have been given to Shetland, although in practice most stations "keep a desk" of the neighbour's aerials anyway.

Calling either Aberdeen or Shetland will get you an answer - whichever station shows the best signal strength when you call will answer. If all else fails, just "Coastguard" works :)
