Coastal Rides

Maybe there has been a change of attitude because the lady I spoke to was courteous and very efficient.
I think it a matter of being selective of the kit that you buy.
Then they have some really good offers.
The kit I bought is brand new and will be kept for spares so it will be stripped down as I need the parts.
If I were to buy the parts that were supplied in this unit, the cost would amount to 10 times.
 
There may well be. The ladies I spoke to were ALWAYS extremely courteous, but could not deal with my complaints or queries. Had to be referred to the Director / Owner / Manager a gentleman P who NEVER returned a call. That must have accounted for half the frustration. Like you said. Everyone can make mistakes, there can even be miscommunication, however the mark is set by how it is dealt with and in my experience it was diabolical. I have also said that as a scrappy they have value. That is undeniable. However some parts should not be sold on and some so called repairs should never be made. In that respect imo they have failed and left me in a worse position and poorer for it. Would I buy something like a light fitting / window from them, yes if I can't find it elsewhere. Would I buy a refurbished engine part from them again. No. Absolutely not.
 
I have used Coastal Rides on many occasions, always very good on price, service and delivery.

As has been said if a cheaper price wanted maybe we have to put up with a few errors.
 
We have bought a fair few bits through Coastal Rides and have on the whole had good experiences from them.

The only order that went slightly wrong was an order of some blue bump strip from their website. When they got it out to dispatch it,it was grey which we didn't want. A simple enough admin error on their system. They refunded the money straight away as they didn't have any blue.

We have recently bought a few bits from them and had no problems with their service at all and the prices were very competitive.

You pay your money and take your choice. If people don't like Coastal Rides service then other options are available.

You have to admit that BruceK certainly appears to have had some issues, I think I would have given-up a lot earlier! May be time to give them another try? Lots of suppliers can, for all sorts of reasons, go through bad spells but they are a useful source and can be good value, so lets hope they continue to build on their improvements.

Brave of Mike to poke his head up above the parapet on this one......
 
It was obvious to all, including me, that your intentions were exactly as you say. I thought it ironic that those who reported poor service also contributed in a positive way.
The saying goes: there is no such thing as bad publicity.
The next few postings will list out where the adage is wrong probably starting with Hitler...
 
As a parting note I have bought quite a bit of parts from Keypart. They give the service I have grown accustomed to. Order online or on the phone and the right part comes first time everytime the next day. And when a bulk order cannot be fullfilled entirely there and then I have been surprised and delighted to find the missing part on my doorstep within the next 3. Marine Parts Europe very much the same story. This is a service industry to a leasure market, maybe my standards are too high, but the concept that I should accept poor service because they are cheap rubs me the wrong way. I will make them my first port of call because they are cheap but I hold service in such high regard that if service is not delivered then I am prepared to pay that bit extra and go elsewhere. The boat gives me enough headaches for me not to want to add to it with having to fight with a vendor. How this can be found acceptable because they are cheap just baffles me completely. As I said quintessentially British :p
 
It's a good thing that they were able to sort out their mistake immediately. I think they made an honest mistake since it is really difficult sometimes to be familiarize and to properly identify parts. The important thing is all was amended and you're ssatisfied with your purchase. :encouragement:
 
The problem is of course that if a Boatyard gets a defective reconditioned outdrive leg from Coastal Rides anyone they come into contact with will be told not to deal with them. Three years ago I was in the South of England looking at a boat with a defective Outdrive Leg, rather than have it repaired by the boatyard I said I would buy a Reconditioned Leg. They told me not to deal with Coastal Rides. I wonder how many other people they said the same thing to.

Yep, quite apart from my own first-hand bad experiences, I've been advised by at least three separate engineering firms not to use them.
