Coast BBC to now looking at the solent

I dare say it will be interesting to some but I've stopped watching the current series. It used to be an excellent series with good presenters but they've got so carried away with their self-congratulation that I can't be bothered any more.

Having recently sailed that entire stretch of coast east to west I can say that Mr & Mrs Saguday very much enjoyed the programme and will continue to watch the series.

Heaven knows there's little enough about sailing, boats and our coast on TV I really don't see the need to be precious about what does come up, re-edited or not.

So far as I can tell, the series comprises the odd bit of new filming (primarily the links introducing each story), but is mostly old stuff rehashed - the bits with Alice Roberts refining oil on the beach and Neil Oliver house hunting on Sandbanks are both from an earlier series. I think that is why it feels rather disjointed. Because it is.

I still enjoyed it though. :encouragement:

(Also, note to self: never charter from the sailing school whose boat they used for the RtIR).

Think you are all very generous in your review of the current series of coast , its abysmal !!!!!

Despite stunning photography the dotting about coupled with reptition of " our great guide " every two seconds ,its more like mental torture . Struggle to find how they consider this flim flam a guide of any sort .

Guess viewers will get sucked in when their coastal area is featured , i gave up , even my wife agreed ,!!!!!!!!

I have to agree with the negative comments. The rehash of the East Anglian Coast was confusing, jumping from North Norfolk to North Essex and places in between. It seemed like a very long and over produced advert for......? Themselves perhaps? Friends did get to sing at the base of the 'soon to disappear' Orford Ness lighthouse, which was a 'local' touch. I enjoyed the odd glimpse of a boat but generally think this has turned into superficial 'dumbed down' telly which is probably produced to sell as a travelogue to its customers around the world.

I think Ondeck were the boat supplier and they closed down in Portsmouth some time ago (I could be wrong but I did look for their website and only found Antigua).

That's the second time that bloke has done RtIR and had a gear failure on a charter boat. Last time he wrapped the spini. Didn't want to cut it down through.

Yes the show was disjointed and made up of old bits. But they did keep saying so (we've been here over the last ten years ...) But it was nice to see where we sail and it did elicit calls from my family saying how it reminded them of nice times afloat and that they really must come home and go out sailing next year. So if that happens, its a result.

If they cut out all the repetition and self aggrandisement and settled for a 45 minute program then I would watch it. As it is I sit there cringing/fuming until I can stand it no more. I now record it and just skip through on fast forward to see if anything interesting turns up. Usually lasts about 15 minutes that way.

Yes it was disjointed but I enjoyed it all the same.

I raced with David Tydeman (Head of Oyster Yachts) once offshore to Deauville when he was head of Beneteau UK and had a First Class Europe. Probably back in 1990.

So was that supposed to be this year's round the island? It didn't look as, err, lively as I remember it.

Seemed like an unstructured hour-long trailer. They may be recycling old clips but given the amount they cost to shoot in the first place could' they have hired a decent editor?

Us millionaires and our luxury yachts, eh?
