cmon irene ?

Moving more east in the latest 5 day forecast than the last updates, but expected to build to cat3. Consensus track is east of eastern Florida then to make landfall in the Carolinas, still as category 3. This is the latest

We are 20 miles SW of Necker Island and had plenty of rain and wind but nothing over 70 knt gusts.

Glad that no one on Necker was hurt and we have no reports of injuries on St John and St Thomas, we have unconfirmed reports of minor injuries on St Croix but plenty of wind and rain damage and power outages across the VI's and bigger problems for Puerto Rico.

As Irene moves towards the Turks and Cacos then on toward the Bahamas and Florida she is intensifying and is now forecast to become a cat 3 by Thursday.

Good luck to every one in her path and stay safe.

Glad you are OK

My link earlier and repeated here updates itself so always shows the latest predicted 5 day track. As of Tuesday am looks like Irene gets up to Cat 4 now but will be farther offshore as it brushes past eastern Florida, then dropping to a Cat 3 as it makes landfall in the Carolinas, not nice at all. It looks bad indeed for the Bahamas before then.

We are currently in Savannah, on the border of Georgia and South Carolina. Were very relieved to hear this morning that Irene is now forecast to go further North than originally anticipated, now expected to make landfall in Wilmington, North Carolina in the early hours of Sunday morning.

We are warned to expect floods here as the combined force of Irene will coincide with a very high tide in the early hours of Saturday as she(hopefully) passes to the east of us.

Must say that we took down the main, dodgers etc yesterday just in case anyway!

There is some talk that she may make a Cat 4 verging on 5 as she passes over the Abacos Islands in the Bahamas and even speculation that New England may come in for a bit of a pasting on Monday....

Maybe Obama will have to shorten his stay on Martha's Vineyard!
