it is a simple thing. just want labels for my jammers - main, kicker, topper, genoa, will need be stuck on.

force 4 do some glowfast ones but they don't have the right selection of names - we can make do but it would be nice to have them right if possible.

where do you guys get yours from, or what do you use.

cheers

I went through the same thought processes with the glowfast - do Dymo do anything like that.

Went to look at Dymo labels and they seemed like tiny tape to me unless you paid a substantial whack for a big labeller (£70ish).

So which Dymo labeller and tape did people go for - what width tape was the right size for their clutches?

you may find that the 'permanent' tape suffers heat/UV failure after a while.

The adhesive layer and the top layer shrink at different rates, and this puckers the label.

Brother make a heat resistant permanent label but it's almost as expensive as your whole kit.

I went the whole hog and got mine back engraved on black painted perspex. The back engraving i then filled with glow in the dark paint.

They were fixed on with screws tapped into the handle so can be changed if I rearrange the lines through different clutches.

Get one of these http://www.labelzone.co.uk/brother-pt-1000-handheld-label-printer/p2612. Various tapes availableor get generic ones from Ebay.

Agree with the Brother, you can get extra adhesive tape with is quite good on its UV resistance, lasts years even on deck.

I recommend the 2430PC printer. Which you do have to use with a PC.

It allows you to do pictures, logos, multiple line of diffrent fonts etc etc etc. All your emergency labels black on yellow. Switch panel white on black looks factory. The list goes on.......

Me too, though mine's actually Brother. I originally bought it for labelling the new wiring.

I've now got a selection of Brother label printers. They are the type that connect to a PC, so you can print what you like, including custom graphics; I much prefer graphics to text where possible.

These are my Brother printers:

The latest cost nearly £200, but is well worth it as the resolution is at least twice as good as any other similar printer. I will be offering the others for sale when I get round to it, as well as a couple of standalone models. Too many toys!

Here are a couple of 24mm wide labels I made for my control panel (there are two labels, both vertical and cover 3 switches each):

Sorry, a bit of thread drift. Does anyone know the name of the plastic sheet laminate with a transparent middle layer? I'd love to use some for a panel. Engraved letters show clearly in daylight an bulbs (panel lights) can be embedded around the edge so that the letters glow from within, Avionics panels used to be made this way with a string of bulbs aroun an edge groove. I'd think you could simply drill in a push LEDs in, too.

Following the fred drift.
That link takes me back to my days as an avionics techo. I always thought that the panel was made of perspex painted black. The writing is engraved into the balck paint then carefully filled with white paint. The lights used were incandescent. Using LED would be a bit more tricky due to the light radiation pattern of typical LED. ie they squirt light out the domed end on the larger wired in LED. Use of Surface Mount Device LED might be abit easier but still difficult due to light coming out the top. I would suggest that the LED needs to be embedded in the edge of the perspex (so needs to be thick) so that the light goes towards the middle of the panel then put them around the perimeter. Although I think the light dispeses quite well in the perspex.
I always loved the eyebrow lights as seen in the link. Tey are apost about 25mm high with a light inside which shines down onto the panel not in the eyes. A gin would need a redesign to use LED
