Trying to gauge a height, I would say that is Altocumulus cloud. However, it is fairly thin, with no cloud above. Therefore, whatever weather pattern it is associated with it wouldn't be very active. UYou would generally expect to see AC cloud ahead of a warm front, thickening into Altostratus and producing rain, worsening visibility, a backing wind and then the passage of the front.
It means the US has launched an all out strike on the North Pole cos Bush heard Santa Claus has joined Al Qaeda cos he's got a big beard. The bomber's vapour trails are definitely heading there!
Thanks Simon, good call I wasn't testing anyone, just curious to know what would be normal. This was taken Sun 29th about 8.00 am wind was very light NW. A couple hours later it had gone flat calm and remained so all day the sea was mirror flat. Cloud did thicken later in the afternoon and by 8.00 next morn the wind had backed sw and increased to a good 25-30 knots with rain.
