Given the news over Sowester and now Action Leisure (see ybw's news sections) we may get some real 'closing down sale' deals........presumably just before we can't get much at all.......
It's a bit worring for everyone when those at the top of the tree fall like this; and a few companies are going to be regretting sole agancy / supplier deals for a very long time.

Who is providing the competition to put these people out?
I have not noticed any special deals lately.
If you can't make money when you have a virtual monopoly when can you?

I suspect that some local chandlers are now the competition. My local chandler will match (near enough) any price I quote him for gear I can get via the internet. OK, so his profit margins are cut, but he gets my continued business and it means that for the lesser items and maintenance work I pay full price; but because he's given me a good deal I don't mind. A recent example is a Simrad WP30, I quoted him a price that was less than he was going to pay his supplier - he made a phone call and was then able to match the price! Badger your local chandler - it works!

Cheers, Jerry
