Close to buying a boat in the Balearics. Any pitfalls I should be aware of

Hi, so I started a thread on transportation costs from Spain to UK/Ireland. If I can get the broker/dealer to get the boat to the mainland, then these look manageable.

But I am wondering if the system of buying a boat in Spain is more or less the same as here in the UK. Bill of sale etc.

Is there a safe or best way for the money transfer. Can the rate be locked in by some means

Any potential pitfalls I need to be especially aware of?

Thanks

Why do you wish to buy a boat is Spain and have all the problems in getting it back to UK/Ireland.

it would be much easier to ask Nick of Boats UK to find you a boat and have all the problems removed.

Boats in Spain are not cheap and what you are proposing to do is not easy unless you well versed in the process and legal aspects.

Boats in Spain seem much cheaper than the UK at the moment. I life in N. Ireland, so transport costs are a thing anyway.

Can you highlight the points of why it is not easy and what are the legal aspects?

The best person to get the true low down on all pluses and minuses is Nick of Boats.co.uk.

They are the specialists in Spain and Nick could source the boat of your choice and deliver it to the UK/Ireland.

Any boat he offers will be checked for genuine ownership, money’s outstanding on the boat and vat/ivf procedures.

He is a genuine chap and is part of a very large organisation which is financially stable.

Asking for advice on this forum in detail is not the best way to proceed.

Thanks, obviously I have already sourced the boat and negotiated a price I would be willing to pay. Would Nick be willing to do all the admin for a fee?

The boat is at a dealership in the Balearics. Taken in part exchange. I had assumed and probably stupidly by the sound of it, that hiring an English surveyor living in Spain that is used to surveying Spanish boats would be able to guide me in terms of VAT/IVF as well as understanding if outstanding finance is owed on the boat. But it sounds like this would not be the case.

How do I get in contact with a good marine Gestor?

Hi who is the broker?
I bought a boat in Mallorca and had no issues as broker was excellent.
I would also say that Nick is your man he is very good and might still act for you for a fee which would be better than anything else as this is what they do day in day out.

Pedro's boat Services in Mahon. Seem to be straight up guys. Boat Dealership/chandlery etc.

I will give Nick a call.
