Coming into Victoria marina from the holding pontoon, we were waved in by the port control dory and were approaching the cill when a German flagged HR42 by the name of Seewolf decided to get in ahead of us.

Approaching from our starboard side, he resolutely refused to acknowledge us and if it hadn't been for some nifty fender dancing by MrsTome was quite prepared to collide to gain his advantage.

There was plenty of room for all inside. At least his wife had the grace to look embarassed.

I remember many years ago in a Wayfarer dinghy waiting for the lock in to the Veerse Meer. We were rafted up on a small dutch yacht sharing beers and explaining that we were going to row in to the lock. Two German motor boats appeared in the channel and instead of rafting up they waited as near to the lock as possible using large quantities of ahead and astern power to keep their positions.

One of our new dutch friends turned to us and said, "I think it is better that we tow you in to the lock. Our German friends are sharpening their knives."

, the triumph of Dunkirk, the only time we reached the beach before the Germans!

Apparently the retreating troops tripped over sunloungers and many of the landing craft got towels around their props. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Reminds me of last year when I was approaching a fuel berth about 50m away when a power boat accelerated around me and nipped in in front.

Not nice. We were hanging about Saturday afternoon outside Yarmouth waiting for the berthing master to let us know if we could squeeze in (red flag up, harbour full etc). He tells us after 10 mins of milling around that we can come in (hooray!) and to follow him in. It was a pretty difficult spot so had to wiggle about a bit and as we tried to go astern a blummin motorboat charged in from nowhere and started rafting alongside another boat, blocking us from gettting in as we drifted towards him, trying to stem the tide. Berthing master told him to leave and we got in afterall but it was after a lot of faffing about and fending off.
